The Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) by-election was held on 11 March 2018 following the disqualification of six lawmakers in the pro-democratic camp over the oath-taking controversy. In the by-election, three of the seats to be filled were one each from three geographical constituencies – New Territories East, Kowloon West, and Hong Kong Island. According to the LegCo Ordinance, LegCo Members in the geographical constituencies are returned by lists under the proportional representation system. However, as only one seat was to be filled in each constituency in this by-election, the method of election became that of a first-past-the-post system, i.e. the candidate who gets the most votes will be elected.
