The new trend of triangular relations among the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and Japan

Under the strategic framework for the Asian Pacific rim established by the US, the Abe administration has constructed a hedging strategy composed of balancing and engagement. The balancing strategy includes “internal balancing” measures aiming to enhance Japan’s overall national strengths as represented by military and economic power, and “external balancing” measures that are jointly taken with other countries and regions targeting the Chinese Mainland.
