Minimum Wage Legislation in Hong Kong: Controversy and Influence

Hong Kong’s minimum wage ordinance took effect on May 1, 2011, symbolizing a significant milestone in the history of the city. However, as there is still room for improvement in legislation and regulation with no consensus being reached among various parties, Hong Kong society will inevitably experience a painful period during the minimum wage implementation process. To achieve labor relations improvement, working arrangement reorganization to enrich lifestyle and social harmony, Hong Kong still has a long way to go in terms of institutional development.
