Tianda Group, Tianda Institute and Tsinghua University Co-founded the Institute for National Strategic Studies

2012-10-10

On September 20, 2012, the signing ceremony of the Cooperation and Donation Agreement among Tianda Group, Tianda Institute and Tsinghua University was held at the I-shaped Hall in Tsinghua University. Professor Chen Jining (principal of Tsinghua University), Professor XieWeihe (deputy principal of Tsinghua University and vice chairman of Tsinghua University Education Foundation) and Mr. Fang Wenquan (chairman of Tianda Group and Tianda Institute) signed the Cooperation and Donation Agreement for the Establishment of the National Strategic Institute(NSI).

In his address, Mr. Fang said, “the establishment of the NSI by Tianda Group, Tianda Institute and Tsinghua University marks the bilateral cooperation has reached a new stage and new level. It is a great honor to do something meaningful for our country and the birth of the NSI also embodies Tianda’s mission of ‘Caring for a Better World’.” He also stressed that since there is no ready-made experience to draw upon as to building a world-class think tank, relentless explorations, unremitting endeavors and enduring perseverance are the only way out.

Professor Chen Jining pointed out that the establishment of the NSI means cooperation between minds and coalesces of ideas, values as well as individualities. He also said, “NSI will provide both our country and Tsinghua with updated perspectives, fresh impetus and a new platform. In ten years, we will see plentiful and substantial fruits.”

NSI will carry out national strategic studies of great significance, launch interdisciplinary national strategics, hold World Peace Forum, set up doctoral programs in studies of developing countries, nurture high-level strategic talents and bolster other non-profit activities so as to propel the establishment and development of “Great Liberal Arts” in Tsinghua, lift Tsinghua University to a world-class level, offer advice and suggestions for national development and contribute to China’s civilization, prosperity and lasting political stability.

To this end, Tianda Group and Mr. Fang are willing to donate HK $ 300 million as funds for the NSI.
